The Matthew Vassar Brewers' Cup
and the F.X. Matt Memorial Cup
Two major awards will be presented as a result of the beer tasting competition. The F.X. Matt Memorial Cup will recognize the Best Craft Beer Brewery in New York State and The Matthew Vassar Cup will recognize the Best Craft Beer Brewery in the Hudson Valley.
The Matthew Vassar Brewers' Cup
The Matthew Vassar Brewers' Cup is named in honor of the famous Hudson Valley brewer and philanthropist, Matthew Vassar, who in the late 1800's established one of the largest and most successful breweries in the Hudson Valley. Matthew Vassar was known not only as a brewer but also as an innovator in the art of brewing.
The F.X. Matt Memorial Cup
The F.X. Matt Memorial Cup commemorates the founder of the Matt Brewing Company, producers of Saranac Beer. Francis Xavier, "F.X.", learned the art of brewing in Germany, and eventually settled in Utica, NY. Generations of the Matt family have continued the art of brewing great beer in New York for over 110 years.
